Surface characteristics underpinning fretting wear performance of heavily loaded duplex chameleon/PEO coatings on Al

چکیده
Duplex coatings comprising MoS2/Sb2O3/graphite layer burnished on top of plasma electrolytically oxidised AA6082 alloy enhanced fretting wear resistance against alumina and steel whilst reducing friction from ~0.6 … 0.9 to ~0.08 0.1 in dry nitrogen humid air. Transitions stick-slip (~3 ?m), partial slip (5–10 ?m) gross (>10 showed an order magnitude improvements over single-layer PEO coatings. In the latter mode, high initial contact pressures (~1.1 GPa) with counterpart under oxidising atmosphere increased due generation Fe/Al/Cr oxides/hydroxides region, leading micro-cracking coating followed by fatigue damage aluminium substrate. Reducing pressure <1 GPa, retained topcoat lubricating behaviour, eliminated after 104 cycles.

Evaluation of fretting wear on the femoral stem surface
Fretting wear on polished femoral stems has been well documented in clinical reports, but in vitro simulation to replicate this wear has seldom been attempted and only limited success has been achieved. In the present study, fretting wear was successfully reproduced on the stem surface by incorporating initial stem implantation in a sawbone through bone cement and utilisation of saline solution...
متن کاملEffects of Plasma ZrN Metallurgy and Shot Peening Duplex Treatment on Fretting Wear and Fretting Fatigue Behavior of Ti6Al4V Alloy
A metallurgical zirconium nitride (ZrN) layer was fabricated using glow metallurgy using nitriding with zirconiuming prior treatment of the Ti6Al4V alloy. The microstructure, composition and microhardness of the corresponding layer were studied. The influence of this treatment on fretting wear (FW) and fretting fatigue (FF) behavior of the Ti6Al4V alloy was studied. The composite layer consiste...
متن کاملImproving Performance of heavily loaded agents
With the increase in agent-based applications, there are now agent systems that support concurrent client accesses. The ability to process large volumes of simultaneous requests is critical in many such applications. In such a setting, the traditional approach of serving these requests one at a time via queues (e.g. FIFO queues, priority queues) is insufficient. Alternative models are essential...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Fretting Wear
In this paper, a review of some techniques proposed in the literature for modelling fretting wear is presented. Fretting wear occurs when surfaces are degraded and materials are removed due to a small relative oscillatory motion between two contact surfaces. Due to the continuous change in the shape of a structure during its lifetime, the design of engineering components subjected to fretting w...
متن کاملFretting Wear between a Hollow Sphere and Flat Surface
Wear particles in a hard disk drive may cause the head/disk interface to fail. We have experimentally investigated wear particle generation resulting from fretting wear between the dimple on the suspension and the gimbal spring. We have found that increasing the normal load as well as using a low friction coating reduces the formation of wear particles. INTRODUCTION Examination of failed hard d...
